DIGGAH FESTVAL OPENING CEREMONY CAMPAIGN

DIGGAH - Decolonizing Hamburg. An open air event by Hamburg initiatives from civil society and the BIPoC community with workshops, talks, readings, guided tours, art and music as part of the “Hamburg decolonize! Initiative for dealing with the city's colonial heritage”.


About DIGGAH. The historical and lasting effects of colonialism are also visible and tangible at various levels in Hamburg. Decolonizing Hamburg's past and present has been a concern of civil society, various initiatives and activists as well as politicians for many decades. An important result of the political debate about Hamburg's colonial past is the project “Decolonizing Hamburg. Initiative for dealing with the city's colonial heritage”.


The diverse program, which was conceived by a curatorial team made up of various representatives of civil society, includes workshops and talks, readings and guided tours as well as contributions from art and music. The open-air event, which will take place in the music pavilion in Planten un Blomen and at other locations in the city, aims to raise awareness of the need for decolonization among as broad a public as possible and create space for more debate about the city's colonial heritage.
